Naloxone, known by its brand name Narcan, is a powerful ally in the fight against opioid addiction, capable of reversing the effects of an overdose within minutes by restoring breathing to a person who has stopped breathing due to opioid consumption. This initiative not only aims to distribute Naloxone but also encourages community members to participate in Narcan training to be prepared for emergency situations.
Allen County residents interested in obtaining a free Naloxone kit and receiving training on how to administer the drug can contact Allen County Public Health by calling 419-228-4457 or via email at smisiakiewicz@allenhealthdept.org. While appointments are preferred to ensure availability, walk-ins will also be accommodated based on staff availability. This initiative is part of the larger Project DAWN (Deaths Avoided With Naloxone) effort, a statewide overdose education and naloxone distribution program. For more information on Project DAWN and resources for addiction recovery and support, please visit the Allen County Public Health website. The fight against opioid addiction and overdose deaths is a community effort, and Allen County Public Health's initiative is a beacon of hope in this ongoing battle. By raising awareness and providing essential resources like Naloxone, the health department is making strides towards a safer, healthier community for all residents. Comments are closed.
